Preliminary Task

REVIEW

What Went Well?

We Passed the Prelim for starters, our shots were well edited and fitted well with each other, we also showed a clear understanding of continuous editing and different types of camera angles. For example there was a clear match on action with Brynleys hand on the door that continued on nicely onto the next scene. We also manged to add dialogue and incorporate many different types of shots in our prelim, for example there was a POV shot along with many over the shoulder and medium shots.

Even Better If?

Length. I feel like this could have been way way longer, and incorporated a even larger variety of shots that further showed our understanding of the task. A little annoyance for me but apparently not for anyone else is the scene after Brynley opens the door, has like half a second pause before it starts, I know we are students and it is not meant to be perfect, but in an ideal/perfect prelim little things like that could improve our understanding greatly. The last thing that went wrong was Brynley laughing during the second to last scene, this was during the transition period so was impossible to edit out, again it is a little thing and didn't effect the overall production, but in a 'perfect prelim' I would ideally not want that little slip-up in it.

Looking Back...

This was our second attempt at a Prelim, our first went absolutely horribly to put it in simple terms. For starters we had around 5-10 minutes of footage in our SD card, but when it came to editing there was about 6 seconds of usable footage which is way too short to pass a prelim. Secondly in the usable footage we broke probably around 5 continuity editing rules straight away, for example a door being open then magically shut, Brynley opening the door with his left hand then in the next scene it is his right hand (also I know it kinda sounds like I'm blaming this all on Brynley, but it was a team effort, and the fact none of us noticed these mistakes, makes it all our fault) I blame the lack of noticing these mistakes mostly on the fact that it was a last-second rush after school, we were getting extremely close to the due date, and we had to do something so we just attempted it after school with little to no knowledge of what we were doing, we were unsure of what shots and editing techniques to include and I guess the main thing to blame is our organisation, we should have planned it better and also had an idea of what we were doing, but luckily our second attempt, after we had planned everything went extremely well, not perfect but a thousand times better than our first attempt.
